Job Opportunity in Brockville

We received the following job description in support of the Aquatarium in Brockville.  It is the first time TI Life has published such a request, but I realized that attracting qualified applicants will benefit the entire region.

We all know the Thousand Islands has many wonderful places to see and things to do. Certainly, I often find myself going through a long list when trying to describe the area to friends who aren't familiar with it.

The Aquatarium, along with the parallel initiative RiverQuest, is focused on showcasing all the best that can be found on the River through fascinating interactive displays and exhibits, enticing people to explore the region. You may have seen their (award winning) helicopter video last summer. As part of this initiative, AQ has funded the creation of many of the exhibits through extremely talented tech geniuses at McLellan Group. The Aquatarium also funded McLellan Group's creation of RiverQuest, spearheaded by Lyne Roberge, who has been hard at work on this for the past 18 months, gathering over 60 of the highest quality attractions into the fold, to present their wares as part of the destination rather than individually.

The following job description should not discourage any candidates who see the possibilities and have the passion and initiative to make a difference. The right person is the right person.

Director of Development

40 Hour Work Week

RiverQuest Aquatarium invites applications from qualified and interested candidates for this position.

Under the direction of the Board of Directors and Executive Director, the Director of Development is critical to the operation of the Aquatarium and RiverQuest.  This position is responsible for all fundraising initiatives and activities, endeavouring to meet the current overall fundraising goals set by the organization.  In addition, the Director of Development is responsible for all marketing and communications of the Organizations.  All activities of this position will be governed by the guidelines, policies and mission of the Aquatarium and RiverQuest.

Qualifications for this position include a University degree or community college diploma in Business Marketing and/or Communications or at least two (2) years of equivalent experience.  Candidates should have a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a professional fundraising environment with proven ability to obtain major gifts.  Experience in website design or website development will be considered an asset.  The successful applicant will have strong interpersonal skills, the ability to supervise and motivate volunteers and staff, network with and persuade potential donors, collaborate with community partners.  Must have strong analytical and problem solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. The ability to communicate in both official languages will be considered an asset.  The successful applicant must hold a valid passport and pass a Criminal Background check and hold a valid driver’s license.

Candidates who meet the above qualifications are encouraged to submit a detailed resume with covering letter marked “Director of Development” to on/before 4:00 p.m. on Monday, April 14th, 2014.
